Musée des Confluences

At the southern end of Lyon’s Presqu’île, where the Rhône and Saône rivers meet, stands the Musée des Confluences, an emblematic building that marries architectural boldness with cultural richness. Inaugurated in 2014, this museum has become a must-see for lovers of science, history and art.

Futuristic Architecture

Designed by the Austrian firm Coop Himmelb(l)au, the building’s impressive glass and steel structure evokes a cloud suspended above a concrete base. This bold design symbolizes the meeting of knowledge and cultures, in the image of the confluence of Lyon’s two rivers. The interior, bathed in natural light, offers a fluid pathway between the various exhibitions.

Rich and Diverse Diversified

The museum takes visitors on a journey through time and civilization, exploring such varied themes as the origin of life, human societies and technological innovations. One of the highlights is “Le Temps d’un rêve”, a multidisciplinary exploration of the dream world, combining neuroscience, ethnography and art.

An Interactive Experience

Beyond the exhibitions, the Musée des Confluences offers an immersive experience thanks to interactive devices, audiovisual projections and educational workshops. Visitors can also enjoy a panoramic view of the Confluence from the museum’s walkways.
