Brasserie Georges: a culinary and historical journey in Lyon

A home on a human scale, simple and sincere

If you’re visiting Lyon, it’s impossible not to stop off at the legendary Brasserie Georges.

Nestled not far from the Perrache district, this brasserie is much more than just a restaurant: it’s a true Lyon institution, combining tradition and tasty cuisine. You’ll discover a unique atmosphere, where every corner of the table seems to tell you a story…

Brasserie with an impressive setting

La Brasserie Georges, inaugurated in 1836, is one of Europe’s largest restaurants, a true architectural masterpiece. As soon as you open the door, you’re struck by the majesty of the place: high, frescoed ceilings, imposing columns and crystal chandeliers. It’s as if time has stood still. It’s as if Lyon were opening its arms to you, to immerse you in its culinary history.

Authentic service

Service at Brasserie Georges reflects the image of the place: warm, professional, and always with a hint of Lyonnais.
The waiters know their dishes inside out and can advise you, particularly on the choice of wine to accompany your meal. There’s also a touch of conviviality that makes you feel immediately at home. A good point for the general atmosphere of the place.

Generous, traditional cuisine

On the food side, Brasserie Georges offers traditional French cuisine, generous and tasty, in the image of Lyon classics. The gratin of quenelles, served with a creamy béchamel sauce, is a must.

As for the Lyon sausage, it’s incredibly tender. Serve with a glass of local white wine, to bring out the local flavors.
But that’s not all. The menu also offers a selection of seafood, meat dishes cooked to perfection, and to round things off, a superb cheese platter.

In short, there’s something for everyone, and don’t forget to make a reservation, especially if you’re going at the weekend! The brasserie is often full, but believe me, it’s worth the wait.

A historical anecdote

During the First World War, it served as a canteen for soldiers, and the brasserie was even used for secret meetings during the Resistance. With its imposing architecture and rich history, it’s like an open book on Lyon’s past.
